How to Organize Your Walk-in Closet

A walk-in closet can be a boon or a bane, depending on how it’s used. Is yours a glorified dumping ground, cluttered and crowded? If so, you may have trouble finding what you need. Here, we offer some organizational tips to help you make your walk-in closet a dream of orderly efficiency.

  • Create a place for everything, and put everything in its place. When you know where everything goes, it’s easy to keep everything well-organized and easy to find. Accessories like shoes, belts, ties, and even jewelry can be easily managed when given their own compartments, drawers, or hooks. Features like tilt-out baskets can maximize your space while providing convenient storage options.
  • Use all of your available space. Corners and vertical space are often wasted, but when you utilize them, you’ll be amazed by how much additional storage you’ll find. Corner shelves are a good option, but a corner carousel is extremely useful - providing 360 degrees of storage for hanging clothes. Installing shelves all the way to the ceiling ensures that you use every inch of space, and storing items in clear bins on those high shelves makes it easy to keep track of everything.
  • Make sure your closet makes sense for you. The coolest gizmos and gadgets are not helpful if they don’t suit your space or efficiently house your belongings. Go for practical over trendy, taking inventory of what you need to store before investing in storage solutions. It may be that high and low bars for hanging clothes are practical for your purposes, or you may be better off using wide horizontal shelves or drawers. There’s no wrong answer in closet organization, the most efficient solution varies depending on what’s best for you.
  • Take advantage of custom options. Today, custom closet solutions can make it easy to create the closet of your dreams. No matter what you’re trying to store, there’s an option that will simplify the process. Combining built-ins with adjustable shelves and racks, installing seating and utilizing bins, baskets, and specialty storage features can ensure that your closet is clutter-free and easy to navigate.

Bay Home & Window partners with Costco. Not only did the Costco collaboration help to give us confidence in the quality of Bay Home & Window, but we also got a great deal on our purchase of window coverings for our whole house! We're very happy with the quality of the product and the high-quality installation work. The window coverings look great.

We had cellular shades installed and it was just want we needed! Finally, we can block out the sun that is just merciless this time of year. I can tell the quality is superb, and install was painless. We had originally ordered light filtering shades and then discovered that it still made the rooms too bright. Bay Home made it easy and affordable to reorder the replacements. They really want us to enjoy our home. Thank you Bay Home & Windows!

Years ago we bought custom wood shutters throughout our home from Bay Home & Window. We had a great experience and our shutters still look great. Recently we remodeled our closet and had them back to create a custom closet. I had no idea how much we could love a closet. Everyone at Bay Home and Window was easy to work with they helped us figure out the design and utilized every inch of our odd sized space. From appointment scheduling to installation everyone was very professional and exceeded our expectations.
